After the official presentation of last February, the CICEMA Film Festival will hold its second edition in Manises (Spain) from 31 May to 2 June, 2024, coinciding with the 16 th International Biennial of Ceramics of this city.

In this upcoming edition, CICEMA will unfold its definitive format, featuring an Official Section of films selected to compete for the Festival’s Awards. A specialized Jury will decide on the winners of the Ciutat de Manises Award for Best Film in the Official Section, and for Best Student Film. The Festival also offers an Audience Award that will be decided by spectator votes. The rules and regulations of the competition and the prize money of the awards are available in the Festival’s website, cicema.com.

CICEMA is organized by co-directors Rafaela Pareja and Carlos García Aranda, with the sponsorship of the City of Manises through its Culture Department. The Festival focuses on films that address the topic of ceramics from any genre, including documentary, fiction, animation and art video. The combination of film and ceramics aims at highlighting different aspects of this art form in order to bring it closer to wider audiences. After the demise of the FIFMA festival, which took place in France, the Manises International Ceramics Film Festival will stand as the only European film festival of its kind.

The organizers of CICEMA hope that the Festival will spur the production of new films about ceramics, an area that already enjoys a considerable tradition. In order to achieve this, CICEMA will seek the collaboration of ceramics schools and other educational institutions to encourage young people to create their own films. The Festival also aims at becoming a meeting point for ceramicists, filmmakers and anybody who is interested in these two art forms.

In addition to the screening of films in the Official Section and the Student Section, this second edition of the Festival will include an opening ceremony, the screening of films outside the competition, and parallel activities.
